The Accessory You’ll Use Every Time You Sit Down

The Vyper Tool Tray is one of those accessories that doesn’t look especially exciting until you actually have it on the chair.

Then you realize how often you’re setting sockets on the floor, putting bolts on the workbench behind you, tossing a microfiber somewhere random, or getting up because the 10mm you need is six feet away.

The Tool Tray bolts underneath the chair and gives all of that stuff a place to live directly below you. Wherever the chair rolls, your tools and small parts roll with it. That means fewer trips back to the workbench and a lot less time crawling around on the floor looking for something you dropped.

It’s a simple accessory, but it fixes one of the most annoying parts of working from a rolling chair.

Keep the Stuff You’re Actually Using Within Reach

The tray is large enough for sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, small parts, shop rags, detailing brushes, microfiber towels, and whatever else you’re actively using.

Vyper includes a rubber mat inside the tray, which I like for two reasons. It keeps tools from sliding around every time you move the chair, and it cuts down on the constant metal-on-metal rattling you’d otherwise get from throwing sockets and hardware into a steel tray.

It also gives dropped bolts and fasteners somewhere to land instead of letting them bounce off the concrete and disappear underneath a cabinet.

That sounds minor until you’ve spent ten minutes on your hands and knees looking for the bolt you just dropped.

Built Like the Rest of the Chair

The Tool Tray is made from powder-coated mild steel and feels like an actual part of the Vyper rather than a plastic accessory hung underneath it as an afterthought. It matches the construction and finish of the chair and is designed to stay permanently mounted.

The tray is 19 inches wide and sits underneath the seat, so it adds useful storage without hanging off the side of the chair or dramatically increasing its footprint.

For detailing, I’d use it for used microfibers, brushes, tape, pads, and smaller bottles. For mechanical work, it’s perfect for sockets, extensions, loose hardware, and the parts you just removed. For fabrication or assembly work, it gives you somewhere to keep the small stuff that would otherwise end up scattered across the bench.

Tool Tray vs. Sidekick

The Tool Tray and Sidekick serve two different purposes.

The Tool Tray sits underneath the chair and is best for sockets, loose hardware, shop rags, small parts, and anything you want contained below you.

The Sidekick mounts beside the chair and is better for the things you’re actively reaching for, like polishers, spray bottles, towels, or a drink.

You can use them together. In fact, that’s probably the best setup if you’re trying to turn the chair into a legitimate mobile workstation. Sidekick beside you for the tools you’re using right now, Tool Tray underneath for everything else.

If I could only choose one, I’d start with the Tool Tray. It’s less intrusive, it works for almost every kind of garage job, and once it’s installed you’ll probably use it every single time you sit in the chair.

Install It When You Build the Chair

If you’re ordering a new Vyper, add the Tool Tray before you assemble the chair.

It can absolutely be installed later, but retrofitting it requires removing all five casters. That isn’t a huge job, but it’s enough of a hassle that I’d rather install the tray once during the initial assembly and be done with it.

The tray is compatible with the newer EZ Lift system and fits the Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max models. It is also compatible with the Big Boy Attachment.

Is It Worth Adding?

For me, yes.

This is not one of those accessories you buy because it looks cool in a photo. It makes the chair more useful every time you work from it.

If you only use your Vyper as somewhere to sit while drinking a coffee in the garage, you probably don’t need it. If you’re actually wrenching, detailing, fabricating, assembling parts, or doing anything that involves loose tools and hardware, the tray makes a lot more sense.

For the way I’d configure a Vyper, this is one of the first accessories I’d add.
